Maack, 81, of Babbitt dies Alma K. Maack, 81, of Babbitt was called home to her Lord on Wed., March 2, 2005, while vacationing in Yuma, AZ. She was born Oct. 3, 1923, in Fergus Falls, to Charles and Bertha (Lekve) Landberg. She attended Fergus Falls High School, graduating in 1942. She married Harold Maack on June 7, 1944, in Fergus Falls. They farmed near in Elizabeth, MN, before moving to Babbitt in 1956. Alma was a homemaker who loved to cook and bake, supplying her family with holiday lefse. After raising her three daughters she provided daycare and light housekeeping for several area families. Alma was a charter member of Babbitt Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was involved with ladies aid, was a sexton and taught Sunday school. She most recently attended Gloria De Cristo Lutheran Church in Yuma, AZ. Her hospitality and care touched many lives. She volunteered at Ely- Bloomenson Hospital and Nursing Home, was a member of the Babbitt Senior Center, delivered Meals on Wheels, served as an election judge, was active in the AEOA program and willingly helped the community, neighbors and friends. Alma often entertained family and friends, especially enjoying the grandchildren for overnight camping weekends. She spent many hours walleye fishing on Birch Lake with Harold. Her knitting skills kept many supplied with afghans, scarves, mittens, hats and slippers. Upon retirement she and Harold became Arizona snowbirds, enjoying the warm weather and spending time with old and new friends, playing cards and planning potlucks. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Harold; her children, Karen (Tim) Younggren of Duluth, Pam Johnson of Embarrass and Susan (Brian) Maki of Ely; six grandchildren, Kelly (Brett) Larson, Richard (Jolene) Johnson, Scott (Danya) Johnson, Stephanie Johnson, Anna (Colin) Yahnke and Christine Maki; seven great-grandsons, Trevor, Josh, Austin, Brandon, Jesse, Tristan and Tucker; her sister, Irene Siems, of Fergus Falls; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Alma was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; and three brothers, Carl, Charles and John “Sonny.” A funeral service was held on Sat., March 12 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Babbitt with the Rev.
