Marholec passed away Saturday, April 3, 2004 at the Ely Bloomenson Hospital. Nicholas was born December 19, 1911 in Chisholm, Minnesota, to John and Anna (Hnatko) Marholec. He attended schools in Chisholm and Virginia, and later attended high school in Detroit, Michigan and Coyne Electrical College in Chicago, Illinois. During the Great Depression he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked as an Agronomic Specialist in Southern Minnesota. On September 14, 1940 he married Emma Bianchi in Ely where they resided the rest of their lives. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. He worked as a contract miner for Pickands Mather until the mine closed. He then went to work for the Minnesota DNR as a Neighborhood Youth Corp. leader and later for the U.S. Forest Service as a Work Supervisor for the Job Corps at Isabella and Lydick Lake. Nicholas is survived by his son, John of Big Lake, Alaska; a daughter, Marie (Robert) Banovetz of St. Cloud; a grandson, Jonathan Banovetz of St. Cloud, and great grandchildren Kailyn Marie and Braeden Robert. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 13, at 11 a.m. Visitation and prayers will be at the church at 10 a.m., one hour before the mass.
