Mattila, 70, of Soudan, died Saturday, June 21, 2003, in her home. She was born Nov. 21, 1932, in Soudan, to Bernard and Lempi (Kultala) Bodine. She was a graduate of Tower-Soudan High School and married Charles H. Mattila on Sept. 29, 1950, in Ely. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Soudan, and a lifelong Soudan resident. Carolmae is survived by her husband, Charles; children, Cathy (Chris Larson) Neault of Mountain Iron, Becky Lauer of Willmar, Chucky Mattila of Soudan, Patrice Pursky of Mountain Iron, Gloria (Douglas) Ahlgren of Bear River, Craig (Michelle) Mattila of Warba, and Keith (Kim) Mattila of Soudan; grandchildren, Nicolle (Jeremy) Schackman, Becky (Dave) Mitchell, Matthew, Michael and Jennifer Lauer, Chad, Sasha and Tiffany Mattila, and Doug III, Travis and Ezra Ahlgren; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Krystyn and Steven; a brother, Robert (Paulette) Bodine of Virginia; a sister, Dorothy Sjoberg of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Matthew; a brother, Alger Bodine; sisters, Murial Rom and Luella Hiltunen; and brother-in-law, Roger Lauer. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Soudan. The Rev. LeRoy Holmes will officiated. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Tower. Memorials are preferred. Arrangements are by Kerntz Brothers, a Bauman Family Funeral Home.
