He was born Nov. 25, 1907, in Ely, to Joseph and Johanna (Globokar) Palcher. Frank was married in Ely in 1939 to Jennie Teran. He was a lifetime member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Ely, KSKJ Lodge 72, AFU Lodge 200; and was a past member of the Knights of Columbus and the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was also a past member and officer of the Local Steelworkers Union 1664 and a charter member of the Steelworkers Credit Union. Frank was a contract miner for U.S. Steel in Ely’s Pioneer Mine for 42 years, and the last survivor of the five man crew who “sealed the A shaft” of the Pioneer Mine when it closed in 1967. Frank is survived by a son, Frank J. (Connie) Palcher of Ham Lake; a daughter, Kathleen (Manfred) Dobler of Woodbury; five grandchildren, Colleen (Tom) Ledin, Brenda (Bruce) Klatt, Sheri (Steve) Lonnes, Scott (Michele) Peterson, and Bradley (Kate) Peterson; six great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Labernik of Ely; and brothers, Victor (Sophie) Palcher and Louis Palcher, both of Ely. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Jennie, who died in 1997; a daughter, Lorraine, who died in 1947; his parents; his brothers, Joe, John, Edward, Ludwig and Anton; and sisters, Jennie Golob, Margie Gornick, Julia Giddings and Angela Vesel. Frank will always be remembered for his sense of compassion, charity, family, a strong work ethic and his firm belief in the value of education.
