All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ James W. “Jimmy” Pete, 82, of Ely, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at his home. He was born Nov. 16, 1921, in Ely to Jacob L. and Selma A. (Wilman) Pete. He was a graduate of Ely Memorial High School. During World War II he served with the Army Air Corps. He married Helen Martin on Sept. 2, 1941, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He spent his entire life in the Ely area. He managed the logging camp and sawmill business for his father and was in partnership with his father, Jake, in “Pete’s Cabin Boats” on Basswood Lake. He owned Pete’s Wilderness Trails on Jackfish Bay, Basswood. Survivors include his wife, Helen; son, Leonard C. Pete; daughter, Gail (Thomas) Carlson, both of Ely; grandchildren, Adena (David) Stone of Virginia and Pete Carlson of Embarrass; sister: Gloria M. Campbell of Edwards, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leonard G. Pete; a nephew, Russell Hayes. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Family services provided by Kerntz Brothers, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Ely.
