FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Ely Echo Submitted: March 2007 ========================================================================= Marilyn Peterson, 77, of Virginia, dies Marilyn Peterson, 77, of Virginia, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, died Saturday, March 24, 2007, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. Marilyn was born on June 20, 1929 in Ely, the daughter of Peter and Mary Handberg. She was a graduate of Ely Memorial High School and the Minnesota School of Business. On May 24, 1951 she married Melvin Peterson. They lived in several cities in Minnesota before settling in Virginia and Lake Vermilion. Marilyn loved to shop for her family and friends and by making their visits special with her cooking and baking. She enjoyed her flowers, reading and fishing on Lake Vermilion. Marilyn received a heart transplant on June 14, 1993, which allowed her to care for her family an additional 14 years. She was active in the Second Chance for Life Support group. Survivors include her husband, Melvin; sons, Gerry of Virginia, Dan (Becky) of White Bear Lake, Tom of Mountain Iron, David (Nancy) of Hudson, WI; grandchildren, Marc, Brooke, Bryan, Danielle, Samantha and Tyler; brother, Peter (Ruth) Handberg of Duluth; sisters-in-law, Jeanna Peterson of Eveleth, Julia Peterson of Virginia and Arlys Peterson of Stillwater; special nieces, Celia Domich of St. Paul and Maren Domich of Deerfield Beach, FL; many other nieces and nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Bette Domich. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, March 29, in Virginia.
