Raymond M. Peterson, 84, of Babbitt, dies



  Raymond M. Peterson, 84, of Babbitt, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at the 

Ely-Bloomenson Nursing Home in Ely. 

  He was born Sept. 12, 1920, in Lancaster, Minn., to Nels and Esther 

(Hendrickson) Peterson, and graduated from the Lancaster High School in 

1938. 

  He was a farmer and carpenter in Lancaster and worked in the Jet 

Department at Reserve Mining Company in Babbitt for 18 years, retiring in 

1982. 

  Raymond was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Babbitt and 

enjoyed working with wood. He married Lyla M. Nelson on April 9, 1953, in 

Lancaster. 

  He is survived by his wife, Lyla of Babbitt; one daughter, Marceil Rae 

Laursen of Eden Prairie, MN; three grandchildren, Anthony (Tony) Laursen, 

Kayla M. Laursen and Stephanie H. Laursen; one brother, Oscar (Margaret) 

Swenson of Lancaster; and one sister, Frances Swenson of Lancaster; three 

sisters-in-law, Bessie Swenson of Warroad, Doris Swenson and Lyla 

Swenson, both of Lancaster; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

  He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Harriet Gustafson; 

and five brothers, Harvey Peterson, Edwin Swenson, Carl Swenson, Elmer 

Swenson and Alton Swenson. 

  Memorial service were held Thursday at the Evangelical Lutheran Church 

in Babbitt with the Rev. Charles Barnes officiating.
