Powell, 76, of Babbitt, dies Robert E. Powell, 76, of Babbitt, died Sunday, November 28, 2004 at the Ely Bloomenson Community Hospital in Ely after a lengthy illness. He was born on August 2, 1928, in Shell Lake, Wisconsin, to John and Mary (Hollingworth) Powell and grew up there. Bob served in both the U.S. Merchant Marine and United States Marine Corp during World War II. On May 18, 1951 he married Mickey M. Shaw in Pine City, MN. They lived in Babbitt since 1955. Bob retired from the engineering department for Reserve Mining Company in 1987. Survivors include his wife Mickey of Babbitt; five children Steven Powell of Babbitt, Michael Powell of Virginia, C.J. Powell of Las Vegas, Nevada, Janice (Ron) Berhow of Phoenix, AZ and Jill (Bill) Hebl of Babbitt; four grandchildren Heather (Kiel) Prahl of Coleraine, MN; Stephanie (Jason) Meskill of Ely, John Powell of Babbitt and Elizabeth Powell of Minneapolis; two great- grandchildren, Courtney and Allen Prahl; 1 brother, Victor Powell of Cape Canaveral, Fl and two sisters, Helen Sorenson of Eau Claire, WI and Lorraine Heller of Miami, FL.
