Mary G. Sershen, 92, of Virginia and formerly of Ely, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at St. Michael’s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia.

She was born Nov. 19, 1911, in Ely, the daughter of Joseph and Agnes (Popsesh) Vertnik. She married Frank Sershen on Aug. 21, 1930, in Ely. In 1949, the couple moved to Virginia. She worked at Red Owl in Virginia as a meat wrapper, and later at the Cluett-Peabody Shirt Factory. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Mountain Iron Senior Citizens, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1113 Auxiliary in Virginia and KSKJ No. 72 in Ely.

She is survived by her sons, Ralph (Elizabeth) Sershen of West St. Paul, Donald (Darlene) Sershen of Eagle River, Alaska, and Dan Kiland of Alaska; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Christine Kuzma, of Minneapolis; a brother, Leonard (Germaine) Vertnik, of Florida; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Frank Sershen; a sister, Pauline Belanger; and a brother, Joseph Vertnik
