She was born Feb. 15, 1912, in Norway, Mich., to Emil and Emma DeNeve. She married Urban Smith on Oct. 20, 1934. They moved to Ely in 1958 and to Mountain Iron in 1981. In 1995, she moved back to Kingsford. Survivors include two daughters, Cindy (Steve) Carey of Gilbert, Darlene (Don) Chartier of Sturgeon Bay, WI; one son, Jack (Karen) Smith of Kingsford; seven grandchildren, Don (Terri), Dennis (Deb) Chartier, DeeAnn (Glenn) Leanna, Joanne (Walt) Howard, Mike (Maria) Smith, Jennifer (Mark) Kieren and Jeff (Becky) Carey; 13 great-grandchildren, Trevor, Taryn, Bradley and Tyler Chartier, Anthony Leanna, Jenna and Carly Howard, Madeline, Miranda and Logan Kieren, Camila and Nicole Smith and Amara Carey; one sister; three brothers; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years in 1986; her parents; four brothers; and two sisters. Funeral services were held at the Catholic Church in Kingsford, Mich
