Steklasa, 86, of Ely passed away on March 29, 2004 at St. Mary’s. Edward was born on November 3, 1917 in Cleveland, OH, to Frank and Mary (Tekaucic) Steklasa. He moved to Ely in 1943 and married Rose Takavitz. He worked at the Pioneer Mine for 25 years and then was employed by the U.S. Forest Service until he retired. He loved to fish, garden and was an avid berry picker. He was a loving father and enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors includes his son, Edward J. of Superior, WI; daughters Dorene Steklasa of Accokeek, MD and Karen (Geoffrey) Matze of Oshkosh, WI; two grandsons and four granddaughters; a sister, Emma (Adolph) Simoncic of Willoughby Hills, OH; many nieces and nephews and a special sister-in-law, Janet (John) Grahek of Ely. Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Rose; his parents, and brothers Frank and Bill. Spring burial will be at the Ely Cemetery. Family services provided by Kertnz Brothers, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Ely.
