Velcheff, 83, of Silver Bay, dies Mollie A. Velcheff, 83, of Silver Bay, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, at home with her family and cat around her. Mollie was born Oct. 4, 1921 in Ely to Frank and Mary Shober and was the last surviving child of nine born to them. On Oct. 20, 1951, she and Donald J. Velcheff were married in Ely. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Her great strength came from her faith in God and praying the rosary daily. What was most important to her were her roles as daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. She loved to read and was an avid Twins, Timberwolves and Vikings fan and seldom missed watching a game. She retained her wonderful sense of humor until the end. Mollie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents, Frank and Mary; brothers, Tony, Frank and John; and sisters, Mary Tekavec, Frances Holloway, Julie Kastelic, Ann Gotchnik and Angela Zobitz. Mollie is survived by her six children, Terry (Joe) Kuhns of Edgewood, IL, Susan Maki of Silver Bay, Sharon Stauss of Mesa, AZ., Janice Thompson of Thief River Falls, MN, Robert and Richard of Silver Bay; and eight grandsons; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter. Special thanks to the Hospice staff for all their care and support. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2005 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Silver Bay. Burial will be at Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery.
