SMITHs honored on 50th anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Leonard H. Smith, of Holloway, were honored July 30th in observance of their 50th wedding anniversary at an open house in the Appleton Civic Center. The couple's children, Allen Smith of Holloway, Mrs. Dean (Merrian) Thompson, of New Brighton, Mrs. John (Margaret) Keller, of West St. Paul, Mrs. Orville (Jeannine) Sachs, of Isanti, Mrs. William (Kathryn \) Jagow of Willmar, and James Smith of Holloway, along with their respective families, hosted the event. Allen Smith was master of ceremonies and introduced each family member. The children and grandchildren sang "All the Way My Saviour Leads Me," a favorite hymn of the couple. Devotional thoughts and prayer were led by the couple's pastor, the Rev. Terry Jarsch, First Baptist church, Appleton. Edna Smith Lindberg, sister of the couple, composed a poem relating to the family's progress in the past 50 years. Margaret Keller read the poem for the couple and their guests. A granddaughter, Holly Thompson, read her original "Letter to Grandma and Grandpa" and presented them with a plaque in commemoration of their 50 years together. Two granddaughters, Dawn and Melodee Keller, sang a duet to the tune "You Light up my Life" using special lyrics composed by them to honor their grandparents. Granddaughters, Melodee Keller and Michelle Jagow attended the guest register. Punch was served by granddaughters Wendy Sachs and Dawn Keller. Susan Baker, Pamela Thompson and Kimberly Thompson, granddaughters, served as waitresses. Mrs. Roy Geise and Mrs. Stella Giese, sisters-in- law of the couple, poured coffee, and Holly Thompson, granddaughter, cut and served the cake. Leonard Smith and Ruth Giese were married July 22, 1928, at the Methodist church in Monevideo by the Rev. McKay. For the first two years of their marriage they lived in St. Paul, where Mr. Smith was employed by the Northrup King and Company. Thereafter, they moved to a farm near Holloway and have farmed in the Holloway area since that time. In addition to their six children, the Smiths have 17 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.
