Bergstad Wayne Edward "Bergie" Bergstad died suddenly on Thurs., March 18, 2004, at the Kanabec Hospital in Mora. He was 66 years age. He was born on Jan 2, 1938, in Appleton to Aslak and Theresa (Ogren) Bergstad. He attended school in Appleton and graduated in 1957. He joined the Air Force on Sept. 23, 1959. On Feb. 7, 1960, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Norma Kohler, in Appleton. He was stationed at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nev. After his honorable discharge in 1962, they moved back to Benson. They also lived in St. Louis Park before settling in Brook Park in 1975. He was an avid outdoorsman, who passed his love of the outdoors on to his three sons. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed making walking sticks and lamps out of diamond willow and most recently he tried his hand at decoy making. He always made time for his family and friends and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was employed by FMC/United Defense for 36 years as a welder and retired on April 30, 2002. He and Norma were able to take a wonderful cruise this past fall to Alaska's inside passage. He was preceded in death by his father Aslak Bergstad. He is survived by his wife, Norma Brook Park; his mother Theresa of Appleton; sons, Alan of Mora, Rian and his wife Cherie of Brook Park and Greg and wife Stephanie of Sandstone; grandchildren, Lori, Cody, Bethany, Amanda and Rian Jr.; great-grandchild, Grace; brother Bill and wife Jeanette of Appleton; sister LaVaine and husband Warren Utz of Maple Grove; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Mon., March 22, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mora. The Rev. Michael Breach officiated. Music was provided by Alexia Santele and Chuck Humphrey. Pallbearers were Alan Bergstad, Rian Bergstad, Greg Bergstad, and Cody Bergstad. Honorary pallbearers were Rian Bergstad Jr., Bethany Bergstad, Amanda Bergstad and Lori Bergstad. Burial was at Book Park Cemetery in Brook Park. Arrangments were by Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Homes of Mora.
