Naomi Ruth (Mayme) Kohler was born on September 17, 1899 at Akron Township, Big Stone County to parents Gustav and Wilhelmina Dallman Hein. She was baptized and confirmed at the Akron Methodist Church of Akron Township. Mayme attended country school in Akron Township at District No. 54 for eight years. After attending school she kept house for many rural families of Big Stone County. She helped as a housekeeper, cook, babysitter or whatever she could do including outside chores and farm work. Mayme did this kind of work until her marriage to Robert E Kohler on November 4, 1948 in Canada. After their marriage Mayme moved to Robert's farm in Moyer Township, Swift County. They lived on the farm until September of 1979 when they moved into Holloway. After Robert's death on September 13, 1982 Mayme moved into the Appleton Nursing Home where she lived until the time of her death on July 3. She had reached the age of 84 years, nine months and 15 days. Mame was a very special person to all who knew her. The coffee pot was always on at her house. You never left her place without having to sample her many baked goods and homemade sauces. She will always be remembered for her very special quilts, and the fancy work she did. Her teasing smile was one of her very special qualities. She will be sadly missed by all she took care of, the ones she shared her food and life with, and anyone she came in contact with. She is survived by her four brothers George Hein of Washington, John and Kenneth Hein of Minneapolis and Ben Hein of Ortonville; several nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, five brothers William, Ed, Henry, Herman and Reuben and two sisters, Minnie and Selma.
