His death was unexpected by his family though he seemed to realize that the end was near. He had been ailing but a few days. Sunday morning he said he had but a short time to live and wished to prepare for death. His children who were not at home were at once sent for. Monday morning the absent ones arrived. His strength never left him till the last. when his children entered the room he sat up on the bed side and bade them a last farwell. He then told them he was dying, but they could not realize it. He lay back on the bed as he had often done after a hard days labor, closed his eyes in death and without a sound or a struggle his great honest soul went to its reward. the deceased was born in Ireland in 1825. He came to America when he was twenty two years old and working in the New England States and in the South came to Minnesota in 1870 and in 1872 settled in Swift County on the place that has since been his home. A wife and six children mourn his loss.
