McKinney passed away at his home in this city on Wednesday, May 7, of chronic nephritis. Mr. McKinney had passed his 74th year and had led a very active life until about three years ago when the malady that brought his death first made its appearance and he underwent an operation in an effort to effect a cure. He had since never fully recovered his health and strength and for some time his suffering was quite severe. Mr. McKinney was born in Crawford county, Wisconsin, on January 31, 1845. He went from his home there to Taylorville, Ill., at the age of 15 and returned to Crawford county in 1875 and was married on March 25 of that year to Elizabeth Carpenter. They took up their residence shortly after that at Richland Center and remained there until 1883 when they moved into Iowa. In 1898 they moved to this vicinity and located on a farm two miles north of Appleton and this was their home until they moved into the village in 1907, and he had lived here since. He is survived by his wife, four sons: Henry B., John A., Charles T., all of Appleton and Dr. Walter H., of Glenwood; and two daughters, Jeanette E. McKinney of Minneapolis and Mrs. Walter G. Smith of Glenwood. There survives also five sisters: Mrs. W. C. Vance (Sarah E.), Floyd, Iowa; Mrs. John Nicholson (Mary F.), Tavera, Wis.; Mrs. Wm. Toney (Loretta), Waukon, Iowa; Mrs. Ann Lawrence, Alliance, Nebraska and Mrs. David Nicholson (Nancy T.), Nashua, Iowa.
