McKinny, 82 of Wegdahl, were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, at Grace Episcopal church, Montevideo, With Rev. Eric Freidus officiating. Mr. McKinny died on Tuesday, March 10, at Chippewa County-Montevideo hospital, Montevideo, of heart complications. Pallbearers were Charles Hansen, Falmer Hansen, Stanley Campbell, Robert Sallstrom, Leo Gallery and Donald North. Interment was made in Appleton cemetery. John A. McKinny was born in Richmond County, Wis., on June 2, 1881, the son of George and Nancy McKinny. He went by covered wagon to near Charles City, Ia., at age of two, settled near Appleton with his parents at 16 and moved to near Wegdahl in 1934. He was united in Marriage to Sarah Ann Leonard on June 20, 1906, at Appleton. Mr. McKinny was a farmer and bred purebred Shorthorn cattle near Appleton o the same farm for 25 years. He moved to the present farm near Wegdahl in 1934 and has been active farmer and breeder of purebred Angus cattle. He and Mrs. McKinny celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1956. He was awarded honorary life membership plaque by Minnesota Angus Association in October 1963, because of his long and outstanding work in that organization. Throughout his life he took an active interest in church, 4-H and other community work. He was a director of Wegdah Co-op Elevator, Swift County Fair Board at Appleton, director and president of Minnesota Angus Association, served on township board for many years in Swift county and on the vestry of Grace Episcopal church, Montevideo. Surviving are two sons, G. Leonard, of Wegdahl and Willard, of Falmoth Falls, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Marlys Lassel, Mrs. Inez Helling and Mrs. Beverly Butman of Pipestone; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Smith of Walla Walla, Wash., and Mrs. Roscoe Bredan, of Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother Walter Smith, of Detroit, Mich.[ This should be Walter McKinny, Walter Smith is Ida's husband]; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
