Mrs. George W. McKinny passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. G. Smith at Walla Walla, Wash., on last Saturday, July 19, following a period of ill health that began last October and that had confined her to bed during the three weeks preceding her death. The remains were brought to Appleton for burial and the services were conducted on Wednesday at 9:30 o'clock a.m. from the John McKinny home and at 10 o'clock from the M. E. church, Rev. W.J. McKee officiating. Dr. D. W. Little, P.W. Hunter, W.H. Moloney, S.W. Bartley, E.J. Fletcher and George H. Hill were the pall bearers. Nancy Elizabeth Carpenter was born Sept. 21, 1859 at Muncie, Indiana. At the age of eight years she moved with her parents to Richland county, Wis., where on March 25, 1875 she was married to George W. McKinny. Eight years later they moved to Butler, Iowa, and resided there until 1898 when they moved to Appleton where they lived until her husband's death five years ago. Since that time she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. W. G. Smith at Glenwood and moved with them from there to Walla Walla, Wash., where death came to her. She is survived by four sons and two daughters. They are Henry B. and John A., of Appleton; Charles T. of Pontiac, Mich., Dr. Walter H. of St. Paul; Jeanette E. of Minneapolis and Mrs. Ida Smith of Walla Walla. Two brothers, Leo Carpenter of Webster, S.D. [should be Lee Carpenter], Andrew of Dows, Iowa and three sisters, Mrs. John Stiner of Boscobel, Wis., Mrs. Jerome Annette of Black River Falls, Wis., and Mrs. Thomas Taylor of Dows, Iowa, also survive. Beside members of the immediate family those here to attend the funeral services included Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Warburton, Mrs. J. H. Carnahan, Mrs. H. Krueger and Mrs. J. Taylor of Glenwood, Mr. and Mrs. L. Carpenter, Lloyd Carpenter, Mrs. and Mrs. S. Carpenter, Dale Carpenter and Mr. and Mrs. E. Smith [probably Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schmidt], Webster, S.D., and Annette Wynne of Minneapolis. -------- [ ] info added, not in original article
