Henry J. Raedeke Henry John Raedeke, the son of the Rev. Henry Raedeke and his wife Emilie, nee Meyer, was born January 7, 1875, at Carver, Minnesota, and departed this life early on Sunday morning, January 21, 1951, at the home of his youngest son, the Rev. T, A. Raedeke of Duluth, Minnesota, having attained the age of 76 years and 13 days. He was received into the kingdom of God's grace by the Sacrament of Baptism in his infancy, and 14 years later renewed his baptismal vow in the ceremony of confirmation. Both of these events took place in the Lutheran Church at Carver, Minnesota, where his father served as pastor for 50 years. In preparation for the ministry in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod-he attended the preparatory college at Milwaukee, Wis., and Concordia Theological Seminary at St. Louis, Mo., graduating in the year 1898. His first charge was at Chaska, Minnesota where he served from 1898 to 1908. He followed the Lord's call into another parish, Fairfield, Minnesota, serving this charge from 1908 to 1922. His third and final parish was at Parkers Prairie, Minnesota from 1922 to 1945. For the past five and one- half years he lived in retirement at Browns Valley, Minnesota, though he still accepted frequent preaching engagements. He was united in marriage with Rose Tanner of St. Louis, Mo., on June 7, 1899, and they were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding two years ago. Their union was blessed with seven sons and three daughters. One daughter, Hildegard, preceded him in death as an infant, and one son, Martin P. Raedeke was suddenly called away last September while still in the prime of life. At a great sacrifice to themselves, Pastor and Mrs. Raedeke dedicated their seven sons to the work of the Church, sending five of them through the necessary schooling into the Lutheran ministry and two as teachers in Lutheran parochial schools. He leaves to mourn his departure; his bereaved widow, Mrs. Rose Raedeke, of Browns Valley, Minn.; six sons, the Rev. Gilbert H. of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; the Rev. Walter A. of Collinsville, Ill.; the Rev Richard H. of Sylvan Grove, Kansas; Mr. Henry W. of West Bloomfield, Wis.; the Rev. Gerhard F. of Glenview, Ill.; the Rev. Theodore A. of Duluth, Minn.; two daughters, Mrs. Paula Gesterling of Browns Valley, Minn.; and Mrs. Rose Voigt of Davison, Michigan; thirty four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Charles Laabs and Miss Helen Raedeke of Carver, Minnesota, as well as a number of other relatives and a host of friends. The funeral service was conducted at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Duluth, Minn., on Wednesday, January 24, at 10 a.m., the Rev. M. F. Buenger officiating. The sermon was delivered by the Rev. W. Boumann. A second funeral service was conducted at Browns Valley, Minn., on Thursday, January 25, at 2:30 p.m., the Rev. H. Warnke officiating. The Rev. H. A. Gamber of St. Paul, Minn., president of the Minnesota District delivered the sermon. Burial was in the city cemetery at Browns Valley, Minn.
