Raymond Schultz Killed In Airplane Crash on Friday Lieut. Raymond E. Schultz, 30, son of Herman Schultz Jr., of Appleton, was killed Friday morning, Jan 29, when a Grumman Bearcat fighter plane he was piloting crashed and exploded during a landing attempt near the Reams Air Base in California where he was stationed. Funeral services will be held Monday at Washington, D.C., and burial will be made in Arlington National cemetery. His father will leave for Washington this weekend to attend services. Memorial services will be held in Appleton at Trinity Lutheran church at a later date. Lieut. Schultz enlisted in the Naval Reserve in December, 1942, and was called to active duty March 10, 1943. During World War II he saw action in both the European theatre and the South Pacific. He was united in marriage in 1946 to the former Jean Young, of Oklahoma City, Okla., and the coupled had established their home near the base at San Diego, Calif. Raymond Schultz was born June 7, 1923, the son of Herman and the late Rose Kohler Schultz. He graduated from Appleton High school in 1941. His last visit home was made four years ago. Surviving in addition to his wife and father are a sister, Lorraine, of Sioux City, Ia., and brother, Robert who is stationed in the Air Force at Chanute AFB, Ill.
