FileFormatted by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy VanVleet September 2004 ========================================================================= Raymond Arthur WEISS December 13, 1908 to August 23, 2004 Raymond Weiss Funeral services for Raymond Weiss were held on Thursday morning, August 26, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton. Pastor Scott Nagel officiated at the services. Pati Arnold was the organist and Allen Larson sang the special vocal music. Casketbearers were Dennis Weiss, Michael Weiss, Ryan Weiss, Jack Weiss, Michael Stewart, Clemens Marohl, and Daniel Smith. Interment was at the Appleton City Cemetery. Raymond Arthur Weiss was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran church, Holloway. Raymond graduated from Holloway High School. In his early years he worked as a hired hand doing farm work with horses. At the age of 17 he was badly injured as the result of a runaway team and was not expected to recover from his injuries. On August 18, 1932, he was married to Melba E. Winkelman, in Holloway. He then operated the Holloway telephone office and worked at grain elevators. During World War II he worked on defense projects in Alaska. In 1945 he started farming for himself and continued farming until retiring in 1976 when they retired into Appleton. Ray enjoyed attracting and watching goldfinches at the feeders he put out. He enjoyed keeping himself fit, and enjoyed his friends and fellow card players at Pleasant View Apartments. He was a supporter of the VFW, Pioneer Public TV, and the Hospice program. Ray died on Monday morning, August 23, 2004, at the Appleton Municipal Hospital. He had reached the age of 95 years, 8 months, and 20 days. He is survived by his son, Dennis (and Loretta) Weiss, of Bloomington; two grandchildren: Michael (and Judy) Weiss of Bloomington, and Jennifer (and Robert) Stewart of Edina; four great-grandchildren: Ryan and Jack Weiss and Amanda and Michael Stewart; two sisters; Lillian Dolan of Seattle, Washington and Ruby (and John) Bean of San Francisco, California; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Melba, on November 11, 1998; his son, Richard; and three brothers: Gilbert, Wilbur, and Robert Weiss.
