O'MALLEY ZINDA July 14, 1912 to November 2, 1984 Dorothy M. Zinda Mass of the Christian Burial for Dorothy M. Zinda, age 72, a resident of Morris for the past 28 years, was held Tuesday, November 6th at 10:30 a.m. at the Assumption Catholic Church with Father John Caskey at Celebrant. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Morris. Mrs. Zinda died Friday morning, November 2 at the Stevens County Memorial Hospital, Morris, after being sick for the past 3 ½ months. Music was provided by the organist Mrs. J. M. Killoran, pianist Melissa Mcneil and vocalist Debbie McNeil singing for the Entrance; "On Eagles Wing", Offeratory: "Peace Prayer", Communion; "Only A Shadow", Dismissal: "Let There Be Peace on Earth" and "My Wild Irish Rose." Casketbearers were Don Braun, Marvin Meyer, Virgil Mead, Bernard Zinda Jr., Merlin O'Malley and Helen Lawson. Dorothy May Zinda was born July 14, 1912 at Swift County, Kildare Township, rural DeGraff to William J. and Rose (Dineen) O'Malley. She received her formal education at Benson High School, graduating in 1930. She taught in many different district schools in Swift County from 1931 thru 1956, when she moved to Morris and taught the 3rd grade students. Dorothy started the Special Education classes in Morris. Throughout her career she was instrumental in developing and seeing the Morris Public School's Special Education Department grow to be as it exists today; from a country school atmosphere to separate divisions of trainable and educable elementary, junior high and senior high education. Dorothy taught in Longfellow Elementary School, the Old Stone School in East Highway 28, and then in Eastside Elementary School. She was a former "Teacher of the Year" in Morris. Dorothy received her Master Degree in 1967 from Moorhead State College and did work at St. Cloud and the University of Minnesota. She had taught 44 years before her retirement. On June 12, 1939 she married Andrew Henry Zinda in Benson. The couple moved to Morris in 1956 when she started to teach in the Morris Public School system. Together they farmed, operated Zinda Trucking and Zinda Implement in the Holloway-Appleton area. Upon their move to Morris, Mr. Zinda worked in highway construction. She was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church, Daughter's of Isabella, Christian Mother's, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Student Club, Literary Club, Women's Federation, Senior Federation, Senior Citizens, Association for the Retarded Citizens, and the Eagles Auxiliary. Survivors include her son William Zinda, rural Kensington, the daughters Cecelia (Mrs. Robert) Novak, Stow, Mass. And Charlote Zinda, Cyrus; five grandchildren, three brothers Fred O'Malley, Benson, Sylvester O'Malley, San Leandro, CA., Lawrence O'Malley, Richmond, Ca. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, A. Henry Zinda, February 11, 1965, and one brother, Leo E. O'Malley. Arrangements were with the Olson-Peterson Funeral Home in Morris.
