(Mark) Jenks Dies at Age 87 (This clipping was found in my mother's copy of the 1920 version of "History of Wabasha County" The name of the newspaper is not included. "1948" is handwritten on the clipping.) Markus E. Jenks passed away on Tuesday, January 11 at the St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Wabasha where he has been a patient for a week. He has made his home for several years at the Mary Baker Rest Home near Wabasha. His death was due to infirmities. Markus Jenks, son of Samuel Levant (Captain Jenks) and Alice A. (Leach) Jenks was born in Walworth county, Wisconsin on November 17, 1861 where he was reared. He attended the Little Valley school in Olmsted County. When twenty-four years of age he left the farm and engaged in the livery business in Plainview for several years. The rest of his active life was spent in general farming. He spent his reclining years in the old Jenks home on Jefferson street which was built by his father in 1890. Mr. Jenks was preceded in death by his twin sister, Edith Marcia who passed away in 1900 and his brother, Vanie J. P. who died at fourteen years of age. His father passed away in 1900 and his mother in 1917. There are no survivors. Mr. Jenks was a member of Illustrious Lodge No. 63 A. F. and A. M. Plainview, the commandery at Rochester (Home Commandery No. 5), Winona Consistory No. 4 and Osmund Temple St. Paul. Funeral services for Mr. Jenks will be held Friday afternoon, January 14 at the Foley-Lindsey Chapel, Rev. Stratton will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Masonic rites will be spoken at the chapel service. Casket bearers will be Verne Johnson, Vern Smith, Franz (Waters?), Fred Amos, Lee Baldwin and Wright Miller.
