Wabasha Democrat, Wabasha Minn., Friday, July 1, 1898 Died of Tetanus The nine year old daughter of George Carpenter died Saturday night with tetanus. The little one on the Sunday previous while playing out of doors stepped on a nail which penetrated her foot for a short distance. The accident seemed of minor importance and the little girl went to school the following day. A day or two afterwards she began to feel ill and she was brought here and examined by Dr. Waste. She continued to grow worse and the doctor was called to the house and remained there Friday night with the patient. She lived until Saturday and died with what is commonly called locked-jaw, after intense suffering.-Plainview News
