The Plainview News, Jan 10, 1952 George Carpenter Dies George L Carpenter passed away Tuesday Jan 8 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Herman Wempner, following a brief illness. Funeral services for Mr. Carpenter will be held Friday, Jan. 11 at 9:30 a. m., at the church of St Joachim. Burial will be in St Peter and Paul's cemetery at Conception. The body will lie in state at the Herman Wempner home until time of funeral. A complete obituary will be published in next week's issue of this newspaper. The Plainview News, Jan 17, 1952 George Carpenter Passes Away George L Carpenter passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 8, 1952 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Herman Wempner, following a three week's illness due to pneumonia. He was born June 24, 1861 at Lawrence, Michigan and when four years of age moved with his parents to a farm in Oakwood which is now the Brueske farm. He grew to manhood on this farm and married Miss Hanora E Shields on September 16, 1885 at Immaculate Conception Church at Conception. In 1895 they purchased the John McClarnon farm living there continuously. Mrs. Carpenter passed away May 11, 1928. Surviving Mr. Carpenter are his four sons, James Patrick, of Bellingham, Wash, George Aiden and John Osmer, both of Plainview, Steven Francis of St. Paul Park, three daughters, Mrs. Herman (Honor) Wempner and Mrs. James (Morna) Moore of Plainview, Mrs. Clarence (Mary) Weeker of St. Paul. 38 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. Two daughters Elva and Mrs. Frank (Inez) Schouweller preceded Mr. Carpenter in death. Funeral services for the deceased were held Friday morning. January 11 at the Church of St. Joachim. The Rev. Fathers S. E. Mulcahy and Leo Neudecker conducted the services. High mass was celebrated by Rev. Mulcany with Osmer Carpenter, Joseph Weeker and Clair Wempner, all grandsons of the deceased as acolytes. Mr. Carpenter was a member of the church. Casket bearers were Patrick Lyons, Wm. McMillan, Robert Rheingans, Ralph Ryan, Thomas McGrath and James McNulty. All of the children of the deceased except James were present at the funeral services. Many friends and relatives from the Plainview area and from St. Paul attended.
