The Plainview News, Friday, November 1, 1918, pages 1 & 2. Influenza Epidemic Continues To Abate In This City During Week Hugo S Curran Hugo, the 23 year old son of Mr. And Mrs. John Curran of Highland, succumbed to the influenza epidemic, last Wednesday morning at about 11:30, after a brave fight to ward off the disease. He had been ill for several days and every care was given him to restore life. For a time he seemed to improve and the family were greatly encouraged with the hope that he would survive. During Tuesday night he took a turn for the worse and gradually sank away. Hugo S Curran was born on the home farm, December 22, 1894, and has always resided at home. He was a bright and active young man, a favorite among all the family. His sudden taking away is a severe blow to the grief stricken relatives. Besides his parents he is survived by four brothers, Terrance of Regina, Can, John, Patrick and Frank, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary McBride, Mrs. Elizabeth Lydon and Miss Nora. Short funeral services were held at Conception Thursday morning and the remains laid to rest in the cemetery at that place.
