DEATH SUMMONS AUGUST HOHMANN Veteran Railroad Man Succumbs At His Home Saturday After Lingering Illness Henry August Hohmann who had been a resident of Wabasha for more than fifty years, died at his home, 903 West 4th Street, at 11 o’clock on the night of Saturday, May 14th. He had been in ailing health for several years and was confined to his bed during the past five weeks. Heart ailment with the infirmities of advanced age was the cause of death. At his bedside at the time of his passing was his wife and daughters, Mrs. J. W. Peterson of Minneapolis, and Clara of Fargo, North Dakota, who had been with her parents in this city since last December. Deceased was born at Schleiz, Saxony, Germany, July 26, 1857, the son of Henry Hohmann and Wilhelmina Jahreis Hohmann. His childhood days were spent in Germany. At the age of 24 years he emigrated to the United States coming directly to Wabasha and had lived here continuously since that time. His father died in Germany a few years after Mr. Hohmann’s arrival in Wabasha, and his mother died in Wabasha in the year 1895. In Wabasha on October 21, 1886, he married Miss Anna Amanda Wagner, and both Mr. and Mrs. Hohmann lived to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Hohmann was a cigar maker but in later years had been employed as a car man with the Milwaukee railroad, and continued in this service until the year 1928, when he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. Since that time he has had several light recurrences of the attack, but was able to be up and around until April 13th this year. Surviving Mr. Hohmann are his wife and five children, George Hohmann of Glendive, Montana; Bertha and Clara of Fargo, North Dakota; Mrs. J. W. Peterson, (Amanda) of Minneapolis; and Mrs. H. L. Salisbury (Gertrude) of Plainview. Two children died in infancy. Mr. Hohmann leaves eight grandchildren, George and Marguerite Hohmann of Glendive, Montana; Jean and Phyliss Peterson of Minneapolis; Donald, Alta Mae, Gordon and Helen Salisbury, Plainview; also six nephews and six nieces. His only sister, Mrs. H. Marquardt of Durand preceded him in death April 18th this year at the age of 83 years. Funeral services were held at the home at 2:30 o’clock Tuesday, May 17th, with Rev. Jason Hoffman in charge. Pallbearers were John B. Passe, Wilbur Koelmel, Pearl Roundy, William Hughley, Ed Hudson and Frank Hudson. Burial was in Riverview cemetery. The out of town persons here for the last rites were: George Hohmann and son , George, and George Wagner of Glendive, Montana; Bertha and Clara Hohmann, Fargo, North Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Peterson and daughters, Jean and Phyliss of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Salisbury and children, Donald, Alta Mae, and Gordon, Plainview; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Giese, of Alma, Wisconsin; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Weber, Cochrane, Wisconsin; Mrs. Bertha Loltz, Mrs. Minnie Steinke, Mrs. Koch, all of La Crosse; Mrs. Louise Boss, Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Marquardt, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Marquardt, Russell Marquardt and son, Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Will Best, Paula Marquardt, all of Durand, Wisconsin. ------------------------- Reply Forward Click here to Reply or Forward Rue La La - Brooks Brothers is here.
