Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Mary Harlan Perez Sudden Death of Mrs. Harlan Mrs. John Harlan, whose home was in Oakwood, about six miles northwest of this village, died very suddenly Sunday morning, July 28th. Although not in very good health, she had been able to do the work of housekeeping for her son, A. W. Harlan, and that morning had prepared breakfast and was busying herself about some housework, when she sank down and expired, without warning, almost on the very spot where her husband died in somewhat the same manner a few years ago. Margaret Tarpy was born in Limerick, Ireland, in the year 1822. She came to America when about eighteen years of age, and was married to Mr. John Harlan at Toronto, Canada, and in 1846 moved to Wisconsin, settling near Milwaukee. In the year 1862 the family came to Minnesota and located in the Township of Oakwood, which has since been the home. Mrs. Harlan was a woman of noble character and her long residence in that neighborhood has endeared her to many friends; always a kind and helpful neighbor, she will be long remembered for the good that she has done. That she was held in high esteem was fully attested by the large attendance of friends and neighbors at the funeral, which occurred on Tuesday, the services being conducted by Rev. Father Parkinson at the Catholic Church. Three sons and five daughters survive her: Chas. H. and Albert W. of Oakwood, John H. of Langdon, ND, Mrs. P. Fleming and Mrs. A. McCoy of Boone, Iowa, Mrs. James Tierney of Minneapolis, Mrs. Chas. Feehan of Highland, and Mrs. Thos. Feehan of Oakwood; besides these there is one step-son, W. J. Harlan of this place, and one step-daughter, Mrs. Margaret Kent of Highland, all of whom except J. H. Harlan were present at the funeral. ********This information from Nancy Colombo******** Obituary of Margaret Tarpy Harlan(d) Plainview, MN newspaper Died: July 28, 1901 ************************************
