Berryman Note: This obituary was taken from the newspaper "The Lake City Graphic". 10/1956 Rites Held Monday for John Prebe Funeral services were held Monday at 10 am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, West Albany, for John Prebe, 90, lifelong resident of this area who died Thursday. Rev. Gerard Cawley officiated at the ceremonies. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Prebe died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Blattner, where he had been ill for about two years. Born in Germany March 19, 1863, Mr. Prebe came to this country while a boy. His parents settled in West Albany. He married the former Mary Wilde at West Albany, Oct. 29, 1899 and farmed in the West Albany area all his life. Mrs. Prebe died in March of this year. He is survived by nine children, Francis, Sylvester and Fred, all of Millville; Edward, Mrs. Edward Feehan and Mrs. Blattner, Lake City; Mrs. George Sagissor, Plainview; and Mrs. Carl Zastrow and Mrs. Norman Boettcher, Elba, and a sister August Prebe, Wabasha. Arrangements were made by the Schleicher Funeral Home, Millville. Two sons preceded Mr. Prebe in death. William died in 1932 and Leo was killed in action in 1944. Pallbearers were Walter Sexton, Vincent Ryan, Ray Gilsdorf, all of Millville; William Thornton, Zumbro Falls; Edward Cronin and George Baker, Lake City.
