Baker, 68, Reads Landing, formerly of Lake City, died August 25, 1988, at the Lake City Hospital of a lengthy illness. Mr. Baker was born May 20, 1920, in Granite Falls. He married the former Bernice Zell on May 24, 1941, in Lake City. He was an excavating contractor. Mr. Baker was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lake City, Wabasha Rod and Gun club and the Lake City American Legion and VFW. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Jean Solheid of St. James, Minnesota; three sons, William of Minneapolis, Bruce of Tomah, Wisconsin, and John of Glencoe, Minnesota; six grandchildren; and a sister, Winifred (Mrs. Jack) Kirkbride of Kirkland, Washington. A brother preceded him in death. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at 10:30 am Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City, with Father Donald Leary officiating.
