Vernon Jahnke and Rev. Erling Hansen officiated at the funeral service Tuesday morning in First Lutheran church. Special music was offered by vocalist DeWayne Stark and organist Sandra Sunde. Pallbearers were Verland Bedford, Kenneth Henderson, Basil Guggisberg, Kermit Thorson, Donald Geneva and Dick Yurek. Honorary pallbearers were Sanford Anderson, Chester Klopp, Ellsworth Beckman and Wayne Olson. Burial was in Long Lake Lutheran church cemetery, with military honors by the St. James American Legion and VFW posts. The son of Martin and Christina (Erickson) Henderson, he was born December 1, 1894 in Long Lake township, and attended rural schools. He served in the Army in World War I in France and Germany, and following his discharge attended school at Waseca. On June 16, 1931 he married Helen Helvig of Butterfield at St. James. He was a grain buyer for J and L Grain Co., which became Archer Daniels Midland Co. of Minneapolis. He retired in 1968. A member of the St. James American Legion and VFW posts he also belonged to the World War I barracks. He was a member and former trustee of First Lutheran church. Henderson’s hobbies were fishing, hunting, gardening and watching sports on television. He was preceded in death by an infant son Daryl, two sisters and four brothers. Survivors include his wife; sons, Philip of Golden Valley and Lowell of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren, Beth Ann, Brooks, Todd and Scott; and a sister Ella Guggisberg of St. Paul.
