Swanson, pioneer settler and resident of St. James for 60 years, died at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at the home of his son, John Swanson, in East Sveadahl. Mr. Swanson, who was 90 years old at the time of his death, had enjoyed unusual good health even in his later years. He was born at Kronoberg's Lan, Smaland, Sweden, October 22, 1839 and came to this country in 1869, settling on a homestead north of St. James where he lived until 12 years ago. He was married in May 1870 in St. Peter, Minn., to Maria Magnuson who died about 30 years ago. They had five children, two of whom survive, John Swanson, with whom he made his home, and Otto Swanson, also of East Sveadahl. Mr. Swanson is also survived by three brothers, S. A. Swanson of St. Paul, A. D. Swanson of East Sveadhl and Otto Swanson of St. James, and two grandchildren, Amos and David Swanson, children of Otto Swanson. Mr. Swanson was a charter member of the East Sveadahl Church and a trustee for 13 years. In addition he has served on the school board and has taken an active part in community enterprises. His long residence in the district has netted him hosts of friends in several generations. The funeral will be held at 1:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon from the John Swanson home at the East Sveadhl church with Rev. C. E. Frisk officiating. Watonwan County Plaindealer, March 27, 1930.
