D. Swanson, died at the age of 56 years. She was taken ill a few days before her death with inflamation of the bowels and although everything possible was done to save her, all efforts were unavailing. Funeral services were held on Wednesday of this week at the East Sveadahl church, interment taking place in the cemetery at the church. A large gathering of sorrowing relatives and friends were present at the funeral. The deceased was born in Harlof, Smaland, Sweden, coming to this country in 1870. The same year she was wedded to Mr. Swanson in Mankato. They came to this county in 1871, settling on the homestead west of town, and were among the first to make their home in this neighborhood. She was the mother of five children, three of whom with her husband survive her. Two of her children, Henry and Anna, were away attending school at G. A. college, St. Peter, at the time of her illness, but returned in time to see her before she died. She was a good, Christian woman, much beloved by all of her friends and neighbors and her death casts a gloom over the community where she resided. Andrew Carlson, a brother, and Mrs. Frank Sam and Mrs. John Johnson, sisters all of Mitchell, S. D., came to attend the funeral. Relolutions of Condolence. The following resolutions of sympathy were passed by the Second Class of the Commercial Department of Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter: Whereas, our classmate J. H. Swanson mourns the loss of his mother, Mrs. A. D. Swanson, whom God in his wisdom has called away; and whereas we, his classmated, sympathize with him, be it Resolved, that we express our deepest sympathy with him in his deep sorrow, and that thise resolutions be published in the G. A. Journal and St. James Gaxett, and that a copy be sent to the bereaved. Evelina V. Eckland, Henning Ivarson, N. A. Pearson, Committee. St. James Gazette, March 3, 1899 Died 23 Feb 1899
