Olson Experiences: Entertained Jesse James ---Mr. Ulvestad went through many interesting experiences during his early boyhood days in Watonwan county. One incident he remembered vividly was the occasion late one after when a lone rider on horseback approached their Rosendale township farm home. Instead of stopping to open the gate to the farm yard, at the man's urgence the horse jumped the gate gracefully, with the rider still on its back. The man rode to a lean-to at the side of the house, dismounted, hung his belt and guns on a nail on the side of the shed, then knocked on the door for admittance. The man sought, and received, food and shelter for the night. After he had left the next morning the family found their unknown guest was Jesse James, notorious bank robber, train robber, horse thief and all-around outlaw, from Missouri.
