Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Becky Jonsgaard Woodlawn Cemetery is a very picturesque cemetery, located between the bluffs along the Mississippi River at Winona, MN. It was founded in the middle 1800's by Ezekiel D. Williams, and is still being enlarged today. Woodlawn is a non-denominational cemetery, so people of every religion are buried there. I have tried to transcribe as complete a list as possible. However, there is a "pauper" section which contains virtually no headstones. Also, many of the old stones have broken off or are unreadable, so I was unable to transcribe them. The cemetery is very large, and due to my time limitations, I was unable to complete a section in one day. Therefore, I could have missed some of the headstones. If you do not find an ancestor's name listed, you can check with the Woodlawn Cemetery Association. Their address is: 506 West Lake Boulevard, Winona, MN 55987. This is the main records office for the cemetery, and is located just outside the gates to the cemetery. The Winona County Vital Statistics office has birth, death, and marriage records from 1870 to the present. You can contact them at 507-457-6395 or write to them at: 74 West 3rd Street, Winona, MN 55987. If you have any questions, you can contact me at Beckyjons@aol.com.
