Page 964 + 965 Mitchell Brothers, that the farmer is the backbone of the nation is an expression often used, and as the years pass by it is increasing in meaning. The man who develops a farm, and by toiling early and late thereon, provides food for the use of the human race, is taking an important part as a producer, and is helping to solve one of the greatest problems of mankind. Among those who have devoted their lives to the advancement of agricultural conditions in this county may be mentioned Alexander and John Mitchell, widely known as the efficient proprietors of the Lake Maria Stock and Grain Farm, formerly known as the Poplar Grove Stock & Grain Farm. The place is located in sections 5 and 32, Lynden township, and its many natural advantages have been brought to the highest stage of perfection by cultivation, intelligence and care.
