In the early fifties he left his native land, with his wife, Mary Bershal, and their two children, Edward and Rosina, and came to America. In Lewis county, New York, he found a farm, and there resided for thirteen years. Of the children born on this farm, three, Rosalie, Alfred and Mary, grew to adult years. In the fall of 1865 the family came to Minnesota and located on forty acres of railroad land in section 3, Marysville. They had brought one horse from New York. After reaching here they secured a yoke of oxen. They erected a log cabin
