The Gertrude photo is about 1900. I do not have any "young" photos of Horace. I should also have mentioned on the Otsego house photo that Edwin Wood was the younger brother of A.J. Eileen Gardiner GERTRUDE WOOD RITES HELD HERE ON FRIDAY Mrs. Gertrude Carder Wood, wife of Horace W Wood of Monticello, and pioneer resident of Wright County, passed away Jan. 27, 1948 at the age of 71 years. Mrs. Wood had been ill from the time to time with a heart ailment and failed to recover from a recurrence of that illness early in January. She had been active for years as a church member, member of the Eastern Star, Royal Neighbors and many community clubs. Gertrude Carder, daughter of William and Etta Carder, was born in 1876 at Brookfield, Nova Scotia and in 1889 moved with her parents from there to Monticello. She attended Monticello high school and took a teachers course at Buffalo. She was married to a Horace Wood in November, 1900, at Monticello where, they haev constantly maintained a home, with the exception of a few years spent in neighboring Buffalo and Minneapolis. Funeral services were held Friday at the Community Church here with Rev. W. R. C. Baker officiating. Organist was Miss Sophie Erickson and pallbearers were Harry Hollenbeck, William Morrell, George Boyd, Oscar Swanson, Oscar Kiebel and Frank Bryant. Interment was at Riverside cemetery. Mrs. Wood is survived by her husband, Horace W. Wood; three daughters, Mrs. Florence Keay, Los Angeles, Mrs. Ruth Gillham, Minneapolis, Mrs. Marjorie Tebo, a Philadelphia; two sons, Richard Carder Wood, N.Y., and Commander Robert Horace Wood, Providence, R. I.; two brothers, John Carder, Denver, Colo. , and Harry Carter, Seattle, Wash. Her brother, Clive, preceded her in death in 1941. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Margaretha Backen Mattlin, Eileen Backen Buck, John H. Bakken, James J. Gillham, Larry P. Gillham, Mary Melissa Tebo, Richard Carder Wood II, Robin Carter Wood and Wendy Lynn Wood; three great-grandchildren and a host of friends in the communities in which she has resided. ========================================================================= Copyright Eileen Gardiner 2005.
