The Gertrude photo is about 1900. I do not have any "young" photos of Horace. I should also have mentioned on the Otsego house photo that Edwin Wood was the younger brother of A.J. Eileen Gardiner HORACE WOOD OBITUARY Horace Walter Wood, age 75, a lifetime resident of Wright County, passed away unexpectedly in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Finn, early Wednesday morning, February 4, 1953. Mr. Wood had been ill for a period of two days following a heart attack. He was known by his many good friends and business associates throughout Minnesota for his professional lumbering and North Woods knowledge, his energetic interest in politics and his intense interest in farming and live-stock. Mr. Wood was a member of the Masonic order, a Past Master and active member in Monticello No. 16. Horace W., son of Adam J. and Sarah Wood, was born December 3, 1877, at Otsego and attended public schools at Elk River. He was married to Gertrude Carder, November 24, 1900, and they made their home and Wright County where they resided until the death of Mrs. Wood in January 1947. Since that time Mr. Wood has resided alternately in Monticello and with his children and the East and West Coasts. Mr. Wood is survived by two sons, Richard Carder, of New York, and Robert Horace, of Warwick, Rhode Island; two daughters, Mrs. Flores Keay, of Los Angeles and Mrs. Marjorie Tebo of Philadelphia. A third daughter, Ruth, preceded him in death, July 1947. There are eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren Funeral services were held Saturday, February 7, 1953, at the Community Methodist Church in Monticello, Rev. Edward T. Hare officiating. Masonic services were conducted at graveside, Riverside cemetery, Monticello. Pallbearers were William Morrell, Oscar Kieble, Henry Brown, William Schneider, Richard Nelson and Ed Anderson. The death of Horace has brought to an end the history of having a Wood in the community for a long period of time. His grandfather settled in this area in 1853, and until the death of Horace, there had been a Wood residing here since that time. ========================================================================= Copyright Eileen Gardiner 2005.
