ANDERSON (1872) Andrew O. Anderson is one of the early settlers of Yellow Medicine county, having come here in 1872. The hard times of the pioneer period, the terrible blizzards of the winters, the devastation by grasshoppers, etc., are vivid recollections of his boyhood and young manhood. He now owns 240 acres of fine farming land-eighty acres on the southwest quarter of section 14, and the northeast quarter of section 23, Sioux Agency township. Mr. Anderson was born in Wisconsin November 13, 1863. He is a son of Ole and Christina (Iverson) Anderson, natives of Norway. They came to the United States in 1862 and first settled in Wisconsin, coming to Yellow Medicine county in 1872. The father still lives in Sioux Agency township; the mother died in 1874. Andrew Anderson was only nine years of age when the family came to Yellow Medicine county and locate on section 13, Sioux Agency township. There a log house was erected, the logs being hauled from the Minnesota River. Three crops were lost by grasshoppers, and, being poor, the family had very hard times. During those days Andrew hunted muskrats and thus assisted in the support of the family. He lived on the old place with his father until twenty-five years of age. At that time he bought eighty acres of his present farm, which was improved with a small shanty. In 1892 he bought the other 160 acres of his farm and has lived on the place ever since moving there. In 1913 he erected a fine new house, and he has a well improved place. Mr. Anderson has been treasurer of is school district for the past twenty-five years-for a time of district No. 5, and later, when divided, of district 93. He was supervisor of Sioux Agency township six or seven years and chairman of the board one term. He is a member of Rock Valley Norwegian Lutheran Church of Sioux Agency township. In addition to his farming interests, Mr. Anderson is interested in the Farmers Elevator Companies of Echo and Belview. In Sioux Agency township, on July 4,1888, Mr. Anderson was married to Ture Homme, who was born in Sioux Agency township March 22, 1869. She died August 23, 1904. To them were born the following children: Olaus, November 3, 1889; Katie (Mrs. Norman Lecy), of Sioux Agency, January 7, 1891; Gertie, July 10, 1892; Ole, February 12, 1894; Tom, April 1, 1895; Christ, April 18, 1897; Knute, February 15, 1899; Albert, January 6, 1901; Tina, April 29, 1903. All the children except the married daughter reside at home. Source: A History of Yellow Medicine County by Arthur P. Rose; Published 1914
