He was born in Germany March 31, 1865, and is a son of Samuel and Mollie Weiss. The father still lives in Germany; the mother died in 1877. Adolph Weiss grew to maturity and received his education in Germany. At the age of nineteen he came to the United States and located at Glencoe, McLeod county, Minnesota. He soon got work near Gaylord, Sibley county, on the farm. He was employed four years by Henry Sylvester, one year by Fred Rose and one year by Frank Abraham. In the fall of 1890 Mr. Weiss rented a farm near Gaylord and operated it three years. He then changed to another farm, near Mountville postoffice, on which he lived eight years. In 1900, Mr. Weiss came to Yellow Medicine county, purchasing his farm in January of that year and moving on the same the following September. There he has since made his home. In addition to the other farm work, he each year has quite a number of horses, cattle and hogs for the market. He has an orchard of about twenty-five apple trees and a number of plum trees. Mr. Weiss was married in Sibley county, Minnesota, in November, 1891, to Mary Muenchow, a native of Illinois. Four children were born to them, namely: William, who is now teaching school in Yellow Medicine county; Emma and Minnie, who lives at home; and Louise, who died at the age of ten months. Mrs. Weiss died on the Echo farm June 5, 1903. Mr. Weiss was again married, January 29, 1907, in McLeod county, to Dorothy Litschke, a native of Minnesota. Three children have resulted from this marriage: Harold, Herbert, and Lorena. Mr. Weiss is a member of the German Lutheran church of Posen township. He has been treasurer of his school district the last five years. In 1906 Mr. Weiss made a trip to the old home in Germany for a visit with his father and spent about five months in the old country. Two sisters of Mr. Weiss--Mrs. William Wagner and Mrs. Gust Schubert--are also residents of the United States, living near Buffalo, in Wright county.
