Aakvik is one of the big farmers of Yellow Medicine county, owning and operating a farm of 480 acres on section 16, Tyro township. Mr. Aakvik is a son of Andrew and Elerine Olson, both natives of Norway, and he was born in Helgeland, Norway, in 1858. His father died in the old country; his mother still makes her home there. Mr. Aakvik was brought up and educated in Norway, spending the first twenty-five years of his life in that country, the latter years of that time as a fisherman. He came to the United States in 1883, coming direct to Yellow Medicine county, and for five years worked out at farm labor in Stony Run township. He then bought his farm in Tyro township and has lived on it ever since. The marriage of Mr. Aakvik and Mary Matheson was solemnized in Stony Run township. Mr. Aakvik was born in Norway in 1853. They have two children: John, born July 5, 1884; and Elmer, born August 23, 1889. Source: "A History of Yellow Medicine County" by Arthur P. Rose Published 1914
