Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: LaNaye Hennen C. F. EDWARDS (1878) C. F. Edwards is one of the pioneers of Swede Prairie township. He owns the southeast quarter and the northeast quarter of the southwest quarter of section 28, of that township, and has an exceptionally fine farm residence. He raises tock quite extensively and is interested in the Farmers Elevator Company of Minneota, the Swede Prairie & Westerheim Co-operative Telephone Company, and the Minneota Co-operative Creamery Company. Mr. Edwards was born at Papy, Iceland, June 16, 1870. His father was Edwards L. Tollefson (Edwards), who was born June 12, 1843, and who died in Yellow Medicine county December 14, 1885. The mother of our subject, Cecilia Tollefson (Edwards), was born August 25, 1845, and died at the home of her son in Swede Prairie December 17, 1913. When C. F. Edwards was eight years of age, in 1878, he accompanied his parents to the United States and to Yellow Medicine County. The head of the family took as a homestead claim forty acres of land on section 28, Swede Prairie, and erected thereon a sod house, in which the family resided several years. Our subject early began to work on the farm, herding stock and assisting with the chores. When he was eleven he began driving a harvester. When his father died, C. F. Edwards was fifteen years old, and at that early age he took the active management of the farm. He was the only boy and upon him devolved the duty of conducting the farm and supporting his six sisters. The father has bought the other quarter section of the farm the year he died, and in the spring of 1892 Mr. Edwards improved that place and moved to the new location. Seven or eight years ago he erected on it one of the fine homes of the township. For eight years Mr. Edwards served as treasurer of his township, and he was chairman of the school board of district No. 90 from the date of its organization until 1913. Mr. Edwards was married in Duluth, Minnesota, December 6, 1897, to Gudrun Paulson. His wife was born in Iceland February 21, 1866, moved to Ontario, Canada, in 1889, and to the United States in 1892. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards have four children: Isabella Rose, born December 4, 1898; Christel Cecilia, born November 10, 1899; Clarence Ferdinand, born May 13, 1902; and Estella Olivia, born December 21, 1903. Two children of the family are deceased: Paulina Leonora, who was born March 14, 1901, and died August 20, 1908; and Edward Larus, who was born December 22, 1905, and died December 22, 1909.
