He was born in Norway January 25, 1873. There he acquired his early education and later clerked in stores. When nineteen years of age he came to the United States and located in Clarkfield, where he has since lived. Soon after his arrival to Clarkfield Mr. Grinager began clerking for H. P. Andrisen, with whom he stayed three years; then he was with J. S. Johnson & Son four years. In January, 1900, Mr. Grinager and Thron Melbastad formed a partnership, under the firm name of Grinager & Melbastad, and bought the general merchandise store of M. O. Kirkeby. The partnership continued until January 1911, when Mr. Grinager bought out his partner and has since run the business alone. Mr. Grinager owns the business house in which his store is conducted. Mr. Grinager was married at Clarkfield April 29, 1897, to Annie Molstad, who was born in Lisbon township. Her father is Brede Molstad, an early settler. Mr. and Mrs. Grinager have three children: Gifford, Martha, and Elete. Mr. Grinager is a member of the United Norwegian Lutheran church. He has been treasurer of the village and also served two terms on the council. Our subject is also part owner of a fine 24-acre farm in Tyro township, his partner being H. P. Rodness. Anton is a son of Gudbrand and Annie Grinager. The father is dead but the mother still lives in the old country. There were eleven children in the family. Those living in America are Gunereus, of Lisbon township; Gudbrand, of near Webster; and Anton. Two children are dead; the others live in Norway.
