FileFormatted by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: LaNaye Hennen Submitted: Mar 2002 ========================================================================= ANTHON HOWELL (1877) Anthon Howell, who farms eighty acres of land in Sioux Agency township, is a native of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, where he was born February 14, 1859. His parents, Otto and Martha (Anderson) Howell, natives of Norway, came to the United States in 1855 and located in Wisconsin, where the father died in 1860. The mother is still living, residing at Everett, Washington. Anthon lived in his native county until 1866, when he accompanied his mother and step-father to Kandiyohi county, Minnesota, the family being among the first settlers of that county. When he arrived at the age of eighteen years in 1877, the family moved to Sioux Agency township, Yellow Medicine county, and here on the farm Anthon lived for the next eight years. In 1885 he went to California and for five years worked on a fruit ranch. He returned to Yellow Medicine county in 1890 and bought a farm in Sioux Agency township close to the river, where he resided twelve years. He sold that and bought his present place, the west half of the southwest quarter of section 13, in 1903. All the improvements on the farm have been put there by the present owner. Mr. Howell is a member of the Rock Valley United Norwegian Lutheran church of Sioux Agency township. His is a stockholder of the Farmers Elevator Company of Echo. The marriage of Mr. Howell occurred at Willmar, Minnesota, where, on May 20, 1890, he was united to Inga Thompson, who was born in Norway June 25, 1869. They have five children living, namely; Morris, born July 14, 1892; Thillis, born May 30, 1895; Elvera, born April 21, 1898; Clarence, born November 26, 1901; Thelma, born May 2, 1907.
