Louis' father, John Bahn, was born March 13, 1834, in Prussia. Shortly after becoming of age he came to the United States, and in 1878 he arrived in Yellow Medicine county, coming here from Fond du Lac county, Wisconsin. He died July 11, 1897. The mother of Louis, Charlotte (Frank) Bahn, was also of German nativity and was born May 3, 1854. At the age of three years she came to the United States with her parents and located in Wisconsin. Here she grew to womanhood and on September 21, 1874, was married. She now lives with one of her sons, David, in Posen township. Louis Bahn was born in Wisconsin July 2, 1877, and at the age of one year came to Yellow Medicine county with his parents. The family located in Posen township, the father buying a homestead right to the southwest quarter of section 18. Later he bought the southeast quarter of the same section. In 1888 he bought the north half of the northeast quarter and the north fractional half of the northwest quarter of section 19, all in township 113, north of range 39. Here on the Posen township farm Louis spent his boyhood and helped his parents with the work at home. He was educated in the district school. On reaching his majority Louis and his brother Herman rented the home farm, which they conducted a few years. In 1902 he moved to his own farm, which he had bought a year or two before. When he bought the place it was without any improvements. He has put out a good sized grove, built a fine set of buildings, and now has a nice and commodious country home. He raises lots of stock of good grade and has a traction engine with which he does plowing, corn shredding, etc. The Bahn farm is up-to-date and a money maker. Mr. Bahn is a member of the German Lutheran Church of Posen. In Posen township, on April 29, 1902, Mr. Bahn was united in marriage to Lizzie Bruss, who was born in Sibley county, Minnesota, July 14, 1881. To them have been born six children, four of whom are living, namely: Elsie, born May 8, 1905; Irene, born May 29, 1907; Hannah, born May 31, 1910; and Ethel, born July 20, 1912.
