The home place is in the south half of the southeast quarter of section 5, on which is an exceptionally fine farm home. The other property is described as the north half of the northeast quarter of section 8 and the northeast quarter of section 22. Mr. Ville farms his entire holdings. The subject of this biography is a Norwegian and was born October 7, 1855. He lost his mother, Handreana (Melle) Ville, when he was fourteen years of age; his father, Jacob Ville, still lives in his native land and is ninety-fours years of age. Lars spent his boyhood days at home and at nineteen years of age began learning the carpenter's trade. Thereafter until he came to America at the age of twenty-seven years, he worked at his trade, also spending about two months each year as a fisherman on the North Sea. Lars Ville came to the United States in 1882 and for the next three years made his home in Renville county, working at the carpenter trade. He came to Yellow Medicine county in 1885, bought the home eighty acres, erected buildings on it, and has ever since made his home thereon. For three years he rented out the farm and worked at his trade in the vicinity; then he bought an adjoining eighty acres and turned farmer, which has ever since been his occupation. He moved to Northern Minnesota with the intention of making his future home there, resided there only six months, and then returned to his Yellow Medicine county farm, satisfied that there was no place like his old home. Mr. Ville has twice been called upon to serve in an official capacity. For five years he was treasurer of his township, and he has been a member of the board of supervisors the past three years. He and his family are members of Rock Valley Norwegian Lutheran Church. The marriage of Mr. Ville to Anna Stocke occurred in Sioux Agency township April 20, 1885. His wife was born in Norway and came to America the year prior to her marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Ville have four children: Henrietta, born May 18, 1886; Olga, born March 3, 1891; Einar, born April 24, 1893; and Ole, born July 15, 1896.
