He is also the owner of the northwest quarter of section 15, making him 240 acres in one piece. He is one of the pioneers of the county and is the present commissioner from his district. Mr. Milbradt was born in Germany December 1, 1859, and in 1867, when only a little fellow, came to the United States with his parents. They first located at Ripon, Wisconsin, where they lived one year, and then moved to St. Charles, Winona county, Minnesota. In 1873 the family came to Yellow Medicine county and located on section 22, Posen township, where the father took a homestead. There Herman spent the remainder of his boyhood and grew to maturity. Shortly after coming of age, Mr. Milbradt homesteaded forty acres of his present farm. To this he added from time to time until his holdings now consist of 240 acres. He has a splendid farm. During his long residence in Yellow Medicine county, Mr. Milbradt has many times been called upon to serve his friends and neighbors in an official capacity. He is the present county commissioner, elected in 1912 for a four-year term; has been clerk of his school district, No. 59, for twenty-eight years; also town clerk for twenty-two years. He is the secretary of the Farmers Elevator & Trading Company of Wood Lake and is a stockholder of the Wood Lake Rural Telephone Company. He and his family are members of the German Lutheran church of Posen. Mr. Milbradt was married in 1889, in LeSueur county, to Ida Kahlow, who was born in that county April 1, 1868. Their wedding trip was to the home in Yellow Medicine county, where they have at all times since resided. An interesting item of their first summer of married life is the fact that they were compelled to get along on a cash capital of just two cents until after the fall harvest. They have four children living, namely: Albert A., born January 7, 1892; Clarena J., born March 28, 1894; Lida D., born February 19, 1896; Henry C., born September 8, 1898. Joseph W., born December 25, 1905, was killed by the accidental discharge of a small rifle June 8, 1913. Mr. Milbradt's father is deceased. His mother is still living, making her home in Wood Lake.
