Mr. Noren was born in Sweden September 24, 1864. His parents were John and Annie (Swanson) Johnson. The father died when young John was only thirteen years old, the mother in 1911; both died in Sweden. John Noren came the United States in 1886 and located in Oxford county, Michigan, where he resided five years, working at lumbering. He then moved to Morrison county, Minnesota, where he lived two years and where he bought eighty acres of land, part of the time engaged in farming. He also worked in a brick yard at that point. He then moved to Lewisburg, Lac qui Parle county, and farmed rented land three years. In 1897 Mr. Noren came to Yellow Medicine county and bought his present farm, on which he has since made his home. At the time of purchase there were no buildings on it. He raises thoroughbred Shorthorn cattle and Poland China hogs. To show that the price of land has gone up in recent years, it can be stated that he bought the place for $25 per acre. Mr. Noren is a member of the Norwegian Lutheran church of Boyd; he belongs to the Modern Woodmen of America lodge of the same place. Mr. Noren was married in November, 1891, at Chicago, to Gusta Peterson, who was born in Sweden and died November 5, 1909. There are two children, namely: George, born November 24, 1903; Walborg, born December 1, 1905. Source: A History of Yellow Medicine County by Arthur P. Rose. Published 1914.
